Enjoying San Francisco With Your Kids
Here are some of the best places in San Francisco to visit with kids, including museums, playgrounds, zoos, parks, and much more.
Originally built in 1888, this restored playground is amazing with old fashion slides, a climbing wall, and plenty of play structures for the young and old. A one of a kind San Francisco experience. Free to play and $2 to ride the carousel.
Koret Children's Quarter
This is in Sausalito for children ages ten and younger. The museum opens on Wednesdays to Sundays and costs $18 per person. It is a magical place for younger kids to explore and play make-believe.
Bay Area Discovery Museum
Hard to explain how awesome this place is with hundreds of hands-on exhibits/experiments. You just have to experience it for yourself, both children and adults. Opens on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sundays from noon to 5 pm. The Exploratorium charges $20‑30 for entry.
The location is amazingly easy to locate as it is right under the Golden Gate Bridge. Fort Point protected San Francisco harbor from Confederate and foreign attacks during and after the U.S. Civil War. Its beautifully arched casemates display the art of the master brick mason from the Civil War period. Opens on Thursdays to Mondays from 10 am to 5 pm.
Fort Point National Historic Site
Just near Ocean Beach is this 100 Acres with over 1000 animals. The African Savanna exhibit is very cool plus the Ape house. The children's petting Zoo was a great favorite with my kids plus the carousel. Costs $18 ‑ $25 per person.
San Francisco Zoo
Well worth the price for admission. You get to see an Amazon Rainforest, live earthquake, stuffed wild animals of Africa exhibits plus a fabulous aquarium on the lower level. Costs $30 ‑ 39 per person.
California Academy of Sciences
For ages 12 and above. I bought this for my entire family as a Christmas gift and everyone groaned. But we had such a blast and I could hardly get my husband off of it at the end. Really a fun activity and worth the price to zoom around on the paths in the Park. $79‑89.
Golden Gate Park Segway Tours
A very relaxing way to unwind as you paddle past a waterfall, a Japanese Pagoda, under bridges, and around Stow Lake. Really Pretty. Opens from 10 am ‑ 5 pm and costs $24‑30/hour/boat.
This is the Hall of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. The Art Exhibits are Fabulous. You just have to see for yourself.
de Young Museum
Very beautiful Koi pond with arched bridges. Get tea and cookies. Pretty garden but a bit expensive.
